M6500I - Overview

The M6 500i is the latest in our legendary line of super integrated amplifiers, building on the sustained success of models like the A1000 and kw500. It offers best-in-breed performance from a technology-packed, rock-solid build.
Providing 500 watts per channel of power, this is an amp that can easily drive any pair of speakers, without distortion or strain.
The M6 500i features five inputs, one of which is balanced; the AUX/HT input can be switched to allow the amp to seamlessly integrate into music or movie set-ups.
Inside the high-quality casing is equally impressive engineering; the M6 500i is effectively a top-class pre-amp and a separate set of monobloc power amps within one box.
From its technical measurements to its jaw-dropping sound, the M6 500i acts like an amp costing many times the money. As Scandinavia's leading hi-fi title, Lyd & Bilde put it when reviewing the M6 500i: "With 500W, this is like getting a Ferrari for the price of a Fiat".

M6500I - Design and Build

The M6 500i offers prodigious power – 500 Watts per channel into 8ohms – but there's so much more to it than muscle.
The M6 500i has a high-quality metal build that gives it both distinctive style and a solid performance platform. The front panel is a bespoke, fine-line extrusion of military-grade aluminium, while the heatsinks are also custom-made for outstanding dissipation plus a fine finish.
We have engineered the M6 500i as a genuine dual-mono design. Each power amp section has its own heat sink and separate transformer, while the preamp has its own power-supply winding.
The five input sockets are connected directly to the main preamp circuit board, instead of using wire connections. This ultra-short signal path ensures ultra-low impedance from the instant sources feed into the M6500i.
Meanwhile, each channel has 12 big bipolar transistors; 200 amps peak-to-peak performance is readily available.
In addition, a precision digital volume control – using laser-trimmed substrate resistors - ensures perfect tracking right down to very low listening levels.
Such attention to detail delivers stellar technical performance. For example, distortion levels are remarkably low – around 0.008% at 1kHz and 0.015% at 20kHz, and only marginally rising to 0.02% at ultra-high frequencies of 30-50kHz. Signal-to-noise ratio is also minimal.
The M6 500i has remarkable linearity and consistency, enabling it to drive any speaker with ample power reserve. It sounds effortless, fluid and dynamic: the way the very best amplifiers should.

Everything an FM Tuner should be

Another new FM tuner for 2010, the MD 105T is built off the platform of our now discontinued MD 102T FM tuner, with a selection of component upgrades throughout the unit. Built with RF components that are produced to even tighter tolerances than in the discontinued MD 102 & MD 102T, the 105 also features capacitor upgrades and a more stable power supply, along with the same MD Reference 6922 tubes in the amplification stage of the audio section.

With improving RF transmission equipment around the world, this Triode tuner, with its distinctive audio stage, allows you to experience FM as it was intended, with the full emotion and zeal with which the music was originally recorded. It is pure, unaltered, source audio.

The MD 105T uses our proven RF design and includes a collection of improvements to our audio staging. This includes our unrelenting focus on a complete grounding circuit to eliminate any unwanted stray signals, and most importantly, a zero feedback design in the audio stage, ensuring the waveform is unaltered through the output circuit. It is a truly high-performance product, worthy of inclusion in any audiophile's audio system.

Tunable five stage ANALOG front end: Five stages of RF filtration with upgraded components matched to tighter specifications, providing station separation without affecting stereo separation. As always, the front end is a custom designed and manufactured in-house design.
Multiple Bandwidth Settings: The MD 105T offers both Ultra Wide and Narrow IF Bandwidth settings to produce the best SOUND where adjacent channel interference is, or is not a factor.
Dual AGC (automatic gain control) stage: This automatic circuit design eliminates the need for a local and distant switch, altering the amount of relative gain that's added to the incoming signal.
Auto Blend RF Circuit: Automatically monitors and adjusts stereo separation to maximize "stereo quieting", insuring the quietest stereo signal as possible. This greatly eliminates background noise.
Precision tunable matched IF (intermediate frequency) amplifiers: ensures consistent specifications for adjacent channel separation, alternate channel separation and low distortion
Precision Voltage Stabilizers in the Power Supply: Ensures precise tuning of the incoming RF signal

Balanced Output with Gold Plated Neutrik Connectors: Fully complimentary circuit insures a perfectly balanced signal, and exact dimensions ensure maximum conductivity.
Shielded Torroidal Transformer: Coupled with a high grade aluminum chassis and upgraded from the 102T, the device is completely shielded from stray signals and transient noises. The high-grade custom designed transformer reduces the overall noise floor of the tuner.
AudioCap Capacitors: With Oxygen-free copper leads that are generously gold-plated, these polypropylene dialectric capacitors help preserve the integrity of the original signal.
RCA Output Connectors: New low tolerance connectors have been added made of highly ductile "OFC" copper, with 24-carat gold plating. This ensures solid contact for all interconnects.
Ultra Linear Capacitors in the Power Supply: Provides a pure source of DC power, and improves the frequency response of the tuner
Kimber Hyper-Pure Copper Wiring: High grade internal wiring provides a clean, uncolored path for the signal through the audio stage of the unit.

Many people question why we are one of the only companies that continue to build a truly ANALOG FM tuner and ANALOG remote control. The answer is very simple. The best SOUND can only be produced when the signal received by the tuner is tuned and maintained in the ANALOG domain. By maintaining the signal in the ANALOG domain the customer has infinite tuning across the FM band; this is achieved by the use of a knob instead of the pushbutton step function tuning offered by a digital tuner. Because of our design and manufacturing process, the front end and the IF (intermediate frequency) amplifiers are precision aligned, which guarantees that all specifications are met all the time; this is not possible in a digitally tuned tuner, as they are dependent on the tolerances of the components.
By calibrating and aligning the IF (intermediate frequency) amplifiers we are optimizing SOUND, SENSITIVITY and SELECTIVITY.

This option, which must be purchased with the tuner remote, allows you to control the switching and the display of the combined tuner and DAC. This upgraded version adds an additional double display to the tuner which indicates the input the tuner is currently switched to. With use of the tuner remote control you will see TU (tuner), D1 (digital), D2 (digital) and U for the USB input. The standard configuration for the digital inputs is two co-ax digital inputs and one USB. You have the option of switching the co-ax inputs also to Tos-link. The configuration must be specified when you order.

New for 2010, the MD 107 FM Tuner is a worthy replacement of one of our long-standing flagship products, the MD 106T. Now standard on many of our high-performance tuners, the MD 107 uses two 6922 MD Triodes in the audio amplification stage, and features upgraded capacitors, tighter tolerances on components in the RF section, and an improved power supply. It also comes equipped (as an option) with our onboard DAC, with available S/PDIF and USB 2.0 inputs, both of which are selectable via the optional remote or the faceplate. Consistent with our design philosophy to separate the analog R.F. section and the audio section, the MD 107 FM Tuner treats the incoming RF signal with special care. The analog front-end of this tuner is 100% in-house designed and manufactured, using five stages of RF filtration with precise hand-matched components in the critical areas. A key component in any FM tuner, the front end is of most importance to maximizing sensitivity and selectivity while minimizing distortion, ensuring the signal sent to the audio section is as pure as possible. There is no other company world-wide that still manufacturers their own front-end, nor is there a company that we can count on to deliver an RF front end worthy of inclusion in our tuners.

Not to be forgotten, the MD 107 is built around the unique Magic Eye Tuning meter, providing an accurate and elegant tuning mechanism to ensure the perfect frequency is fed through the tuner's front end.

To complement this world class R.F. section, our proven world-class triode audio section is designed to perform at the same high level our customers have come to expect from Magnum Dynalab products. Specifically, we have paid special attention to three critical areas of the design.

First and the most important, we achieve a complete grounding circuit to remove all stray ground path signals that alter the micro-information as it moves through the device, allowing the listener to grasp the full emotion of the music.
Secondly, the design of the power supply utilizes a special path and high-grade components, which eliminates any ripple effect from the AC source that would interfere with the nuances in the music.
Lastly but no less important is the zero feedback design that does not alter the original waveform. Our design team consists of music lovers, and the design in the 107's audio section allows our customers to feel the same passion for the music as the creator of the original recording.
